Regional roundtable: Western Balkans Cooperation in the context of the Berlin Process

Group for Development Policy (GDP), in cooperation with the European Fund for Balkans, and our partners – Institute for Democracy Societas Civilis from Skopje and Foundation New Policies from Sarajevo, organised the roundtable “Enhancing Regional Cooperation: Implementation of the Vienna Western Balkans Summit Commitments” in Belgrade on 30 June 2016.

The roundtable was a part of the broader regional research project, which has an aim to contribute to the improvement of the regional policies in the context of the Berlin Process that gathers representatives of the EU member states and governments of the Western Balkan countries. This project is supported by the European Fund for Balkans within its programme Think and Link 2016.

The roundtable included the presentation of the regional study on the implementation of the commitments from two Declarations adopted within the auspices of the Berlin Process, at the summit in Vienna last year – Joint Declaration on the Establishment of the Regional Youth Cooperation Office of the Western Balkans and the Declaration on the Regional Cooperation and the Solution of Bilateral Disputes. This study is based on the research conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Serbia by GDP and its partner organisations. Furthermore, the roundtable served as an opportunity for discussion of the upcoming Paris Summit (to be held of 4 July 2016) and continuation of the Berlin Process.

After the Paris Summit, GDP and partner organisations will conduct additional research and prepare recommendations for the improvement of the implementation of the Berlin Process commitments in the field of regional and youth cooperation (Regional Policy Brief). These will be presented at the press conference in December 2016.
